Finis answers all the questions teachers and students have been asking for years. Learn new, effective ways to do traditional exercises. Geared towards today's dancer, who must perform a variety of dancing styles, this barre is unique in structure, order of exercises, choice of movements, tempos, and dynamics. And Noriko is exquisite. CUSTOMER COMMENTS "Mr. Jhung's work is comparable to Vaganova meeting the space age: relaxed stretches, yogic postures, modern dance movements, his own innovative approach, and strictly classical, traditional ballet technique are joined together in a workout which is at once simple and highly exacting. The attention to details and brilliance in innovative concepts is staggering." - Lesandre Ayrey, The Way of Dance, Coarsegold, CA "Finis is a teacher's teacher; his methods should be required education for serious ballet teachers schooled in conventional ways. Just watching Finis demonstrate is an education in itself - he makes the link between technique and artistry so clear and accessible." - Patty Neivert, Patty Neivert School of Dance, Westminster, MD Purchase The Thinking Dancer: Working at the Barre DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=78.Read More

DESCRIPTION How is it that some dancers are so graceful and relaxed while executing even… most complicated and quick movements, while others look as though they have two left feet? It's because "good" dancers naturally connect their movements. Their linking steps really do intersect, cross over, and are joined to the following step in a single movement. This groundbreaking class with Finis and Jennifer shows you how it's really done. Problems be gone! CUSTOMER COMMENTS "Bravo! These are the best and most informative videos I've ever seen. Your work not only reinforces what I know, but helps to inspire and guide me in new directions. They are wonderful!" - Patsy Swayze, Dancers Studio, Simi Valley, CA "Your videos are a wonderful teaching tool! I can't tell you how thrilled I am with these videos!" - Shelley Morinsky, New Dance Workshop, Lansdale, PA Purchase the Connecting Movements Sideways & Forward DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=76.Read More

DESCRIPTION This Class is so much fun! Finis shows and explains each exercise, Saige does… Finis corrects and coaches, Saige does it again. When it's needed, Finis has Saige try a step several times so that it's very clear to the viewer (and Saige) what needs to be done. Besides the technical "how to" information, Finis gives examples of musical and artistic choices that make the difference. With each exercise, it becomes clear that as you learn and perfect your preparations, you'll get the results youre looking for. The centerwork proceeds from working on pirouettes at the barre through grand pirouettes en dedans to new jumps such as balloté, balloné, entrechat royale, grand fouetté en tournant, and grand jeté saut de chat. You're going to watch this one with a smile and hope in your heart! CUSTOMER COMMENTS "Thank you - thank you - thank you! Although (unfortunately) we cant all be dancers, these instructional videos that we can watch and digest at home, at our own pace, can probably help most of us to stand, place ourselves, look halfway human, and feel at least somewhat stable in our attempts!! I have decided to order another batch of your marvelous videos - surely there cant ever be enough 'pointers' for me!" - Linda Tao, MD, New York, NY Purchase the Centerwork on Turns and Jumps DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=59.Read More

DESCRIPTION Finis and Katie go through all the basic points of teaching barre, from beginner… advanced. He tells you everything hes observed in 35 years of teaching pros and amateurs in NYC. The bottom line is, youve got to have a leg to stand on. Most teachers tend to focus on foot positions and the working leg; therefore students develop poor habits which weaken the supporting side and consequently the center work. Here are The Rules of Barrework which will help you avoid common mistakes and enable you and your students to get the most out of the barre. This detailed, comprehensive guide to all the things you and your students need to know will give you the "teachers eye" that sees problems before they happen. Learn to see what really matters. CUSTOMER COMMENTS "The clarity of the ideas, the rooting out of the essential in The Art of Teaching videos is amazing. It has helped me immensely to focus and to get to the root of so many other problems. It is just like a shot in the arm. So thank you Finis from myself and all the Parisian dancers for your generosity, brilliant analysis, and intelligent approach. I find my self stimulated and renewed and practically run to the studio each morning because I am so excited about sharing your marvelous ideas." - Wayne Byars, Professeur de Danse Classique, Paris, France "I have been re-viewing your 'Art of Teaching' videos several times, and each time, I hear something new. Your teaching methods are so progressive that the student and teacher constantly have new elements with which to work. Your concepts take everything to a new level. Your techniques are very natural, thus very liberating, allowing the dancer to become the dance." - Melinda Delgado, Ballet Instructor, Montana Ballet School, Bozeman, MT Purchase The Art of Teaching Barre DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=62.Read More

DESCRIPTION Your students want to turn. You wish they could. Well, they can, and they… Now you can see and learn the "secrets" to dazzling turns. Whether it's a male virtuoso finishing 9 turns on demi-pointe or a ballerina doing 4 on pointe while raising her arms, it all comes from the preparation. Finis begins chaînés turns for beginners, and gradually progresses, step by step, to the advanced level on pointe. Exercises include a slow promenade that teaches the most crucial elements of the pirouette preparation; simple pirouettes en dehors and en dedans; en dehors turns in large poses that travel across the floor; en dedans turns in poses that travel; and then Cheryl puts on her pointe shoes to show you piqué turns en dedans and en dehors; fouetté turns and a traveling combination with leg changes. Notice how Cheryl improves with each correction that Finis gives. There is method to this madness. CUSTOMER COMMENTS "I have already shared some of your tips on turning with my students (both youngsters and adults.) If only I had a photo of their faces when they perform that first turn successfully while applying your concepts - the expression is priceless!" - Pilar Doheny, Pacific Dance, Irvine, CA "Finiss ability to make turns make sense is amazing. Instead of restricting the students, he enables them to do it naturally. Thank you, Finis." - JP Christensen, The City Performing Arts Academy, Visalia, CA "I had great success right from the start, incorporating your theories on teaching pirouettes. I am seeing more stability, confidence, and cleaner finishes. This is especially true of en dedans turns, which I have found to be problematic using other teaching methods. Each time I watch this video, I am pleased to discover more subtleties of your technique." - Rhoda Lichy, Teacher, Allégro School of Dance, Rochester, MN Purchase The Art of Teaching Turns DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=63.Read More

DESCRIPTION If youve never done a pirouette, or are having trouble turning, this is for… You begin slowly, making half and full turns on two feet (assemblé soutenu); next, you make a full turn slowly on a flat foot (promenade); you add movement to the extended leg (grand rond de jambe) in another promenade; you will identify the muscles that turn your plié; and finally you will practice pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, concluding with a pirouette in the attitude position. Finis shows each exercise, Saige does it, Finis analyzes and corrects, and Saige repeats. After youve done the exercises in this video, youre ready to work on Finis Jhungs Pirouette Class 1. Now, who said you couldnt turn? CUSTOMER COMMENTS "The way you structure the turn exercises is wonderful - I can really feel the balance and the turn. The exercises are slow but deliberate. I 'saw the light' when you said push onto the standing leg when doing assemble soutenu. I especially like the part where you show how to stay down in demi plié before going up to pirouette." - Chooi Chin Liew, Adult Student / Lecturer, Singapore, Singapore Purchase the Intermediate Centerwork on Turns DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=57.Read More

DESCRIPTION Finis teaches you how to execute connecting movements, or linking steps, such as the… and pas de bourrée, so that they become preparations for the little jumps — petit allegro — that are a highpoint of every class. Finis shows each exercise, step-by-step, count-by-count, and then Saige does it. Finis then analyzes and corrects, and Saige repeats it. You know, there's nothing like looking in the mirror and seeing yourself "standing in the air." These exercises are designed to let you do just that. The French call it "ballon." Roughly translated, it means youre going to have more bounce to the ounce! CUSTOMER COMMENTS "This video is exactly what I've need. Jumps have been the hardest for me to learn, and now I see why. I didn't understand the WHAT or the HOW of what I was supposed to do. Finally, I've got the missing piece to the puzzle. I went to class tonight, and after doing your jump video once, and watching it a couple of times, my teacher noticed improvements in my jumps. She said I had good elevation and I was landing much better!! That says it all for me. Your method of teaching really works!!" - Heidi Granberry, Administrative Assistant, Indianapolis, IN "I love your work! My dance school is becoming renowned in my area because of your sage advice. Thank you for putting into words the thoughts I've always believed." - Deborah L. DESCRIPTION Finis gives a barre almost exactly like this when he teaches professional dancers in… York City. It is designed to gently warm up, stretch, and strengthen the entire body. Students say that are ready to do any kind of choreography after theyve done this barre, which includes exercises that students identify as a "Finis Fix," especially his favorite barre stretch that goes from foot work to floor stretches to arabesque pencheé to attitude-arabesque balance on relevé. It releases the body and the mind, and leads you to an easy balance. Finis first shows and explains each exercise in this video, and then the young and talented Saige Miller does it, as Finis stands by, observing, instructing, and coaching. Watch how Saige is able to work without the barre, all the while maintaining correct posture, placement and turnout. This barre does what a good barre should do: it warms you up, reinforces the basics, and takes you forward. And, it gives you a leg to stand on. CUSTOMER COMMENTS "Your videos are the only ones that can still teach me something new and valuable. Our Ballet Conservatory uses its money judiciously to increase our extensive ballet and music library. We have your complete collection on our shelves, and yours are the only videos our students are allowed to view unsupervised. Your recordings are probably the greatest contribution to ballet methodology I have ever seen." - Kelli Ryan, Artistic Director, American Ballet Conservatory, Atwater, CA Purchase the Intermediate Barrework DVD at http://finisjhung.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=56.Read More
