Directed by Benoit Dervaux, this clip is from the brilliant 26 minute work made in 2002 as choreographed by Heddy Maalen whose company is touring the US in the summer of 2008. The simplicity and purity of the filmmaking approach is deceptive. The dance is interspersed with scenes of contemporary life in Africa to heighten awareness of the social and political sensitivities inherent modern African dance.
