Dear World... May 9, 2016 | hfrederick | More on General
This piece is about terrorism, terrorist attacks, and the current state of our world. A…that most would rather avoid and turn a blind eye to. A topic that most react to with fear and anger. A topic that should not be avoided. Our world is hurting. Our world needs each other. The imagery I’ve chosen is from the documented day in history, August 23, 1989, “The day holding hands changed the world.” This is a piece about coming together in times of turmoil. Riverbank May 7, 2016 | bbs | More on Modern
Excerpt: Adapted from Chekov's The Cherry Orchard, "Riverbank" captures five very different characters' reaction upon…their auctioned family home. They all possess their own "baggage" metaphorically symbolized by their suitcases lined across the stage. John Gazzale sonorously voices his reluctance to leaving, he holds onto his guitar and says, "I don't feel like leaving now." He eyes Katya Vasilaky as if reaching out for something intangible while she dances on pointe as she claims she is dazed and confused about going away from their large white house with its terrain alongside the bed of a river falling into gentle ruin. Throughout, the piece is haunted by a great mixture of recorded music. Virginie Mecene with strong stances and arms flexed displays strength to overcome. Nicola Iervasi is a passionate character full of anger and tenderness. Blakely White plays a sharp character who seeks love in her uplifted gaze. All characters react differently either through passion, love, determination, confusion or impatience to the same set of circumstances. Dancers and actor from Martha Graham Company, San Francisco Ballet and Actors Studio Drama School.Read More
