Happy Re-Birthday, R.D.

On April 13, 2012, a 74-year-old man suffered sudden cardiac arrest. The choreographer, Daria Oller, was the first on the scene and began CPR. The dance was performed as a surprise to the man to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his survival. The day someone survives cardiac arrest is known as his/her re-birthday. Part 1 represents when he woke up that morning to an absolutely beautiful day. Part 2, with Karen Stoner (pointe) and Catherine Johnson (ballet) represent when he was playing squash (which is what he was doing when he fell ill), happy and joyful. Part 3, with Dana Wilhelm (contemporary) and Jill Brighton (modern), represent when his heart stopped working properly and he started to die. Part 4, with Kristen Richers (Irish) and Daria Oller (tap), represent performing CPR. Part 5 represents his survival.
