A chat with Maria Kowroski, Era Jouravlev and Dwight Rhoden
During the summer we sat down with teachers at Joffrey Ballet School to have a discussion about what drives them as teachers and the qualities they see in today's young dancers. Hear from New York City Ballet principle ballerina Maria Kowroski who was "born and raised Joffrey Ballet School" and feels it is important to give back what she's learned. For three years running she has joined Joffrey's summer intensive teaching staff. Era Jouravlev, Head of Classical Studies at Joffrey Ballet School, has been with Joffrey since 1999 and is very devoted to "her kids." She thrills in seeing the improvement of the dancers from the morning to the end of the day. Dwight Rhoden, Choreographer and Artistic Director of Complexion Contemporary Ballet, has always been attracted to the "quality of dancer the Joffrey Ballet School attracts" and loves bringing his philosophy of dance to his teaching so that dancers can go beyond their training and be versatile dancers who take risks. Learn more from these three powerful teachers in this 6-minute video which celebrates 60-years of Joffrey Ballet School's training.
